    Renske Herder

Renske Herder is a Dutch multidisciplinary designer and fine artist born in Leeuwarden (1986). She is working across painting, collage, illustration, print making and she's also working as so called 'plate painter' (plateelschilder). Originally Renske is graduated as an Industrial Design Engineer at the University of Twente, but always had a difficult relation with mass production and mass consumption. She found a much bigger love for crafts and simplicity. 2013/2014 was a period where she lived on Bonaire and this place had the perfect conditions to make her start painting on a regular basis. On Bonaire she experienced a basic island life that consisted of kitesurfing, painting and working in a furniture store. Back in The Netherlands Renske is now gradually developing her style and technique. She is still kitesurfing and also cycling, hiking and camping where she can to stay connected with nature.

    ARTIST STATEMENT NL:

Ofwel: "An anonymous gesture allows us to attain the universal".

    ARTIST STATEMENT ENG:

The inspiration for my art comes mostly from nature, but I'm also attracted to folk art ( I don't like the word 'primitive art' very mutch ).  I noticed there are great similarities between aboriginal art, micro photography of for example muscles or brains, persian tapestries and some abstract art like the art of Jackson Pollock. Like Joan Miro I like to recapture the expression of an undistorted human spirit. Or like Miro said: "An anonymous gesture allows us to attain the universal". I think people unconsciously are attracted to structes, repetitive patterns, lines and dots because these are the building stones of the world.

  • KITESURFING

I really enjoy kitesurfing. The sport allows me to be active and be surrounded by nature at the same time. Kitesurfing is one of the best ways to clear my head and feel free.
